Two ‘Paranormal Activity’ Movies Headed To Theaters In 2014

Are you crushingly disappointed that a Paranormal Activity sequel won’t arrive in theaters this Halloween? Chances are you’re not the only one.

If you’re currently fighting back tears, then you’ll be happy to know that the folks at Paramount Pictures have you covered next year. According to recent reports, the studio plans to drop no less than two movies into theaters over the course of 2014.

The rumored Latino spin-off will be the first new entry in the franchise to hit theaters next year. Christopher Landon’s Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones is slated to arrive on January 3, 2014. Paramount insists that this isn’t the fifth installment of the main storyline.

However, this isn’t the first time the series has released a spin-off tailored to a specific audience. Although it’s not an official entry, Paranormal Activity 2: Tokyo Night was released in Japan back in 2010. The film makes several references to the events found in the original movie.

The next proper installment of the franchise should arrive late next year. Paranormal Activity 5, which is considered an official sequel, is currently penciled in for October 24, 2014. However, no one has been approached to direct or star in the feature as of this writing.

This is the first year since Paranormal Activity 2 bowed back in 2010 that Paramount Pictures hasn’t dropped a film into theaters for Halloween. After the Saw series wrapped up, horror fanatics turned their attention to the incredibly lucrative found footage series.

Since these movies cost next to nothing to make, the studio has an extremely easy time turning a profit. Even the critically-panned Paranormal Activity 4 went on to make around $140 million at the box office. This doesn’t include the cash it made after hitting Blu-ray and DVD.

Are you extremely disappointed that there won’t be a Paranormal Activity to watch in theaters this Halloween? Do you plan to catch the sequel and the Latino spin-off next year?
