The Monuments Men Trailer: George Clooney And Matt Damon Fight Nazis, Steal Art In New Movie [Video]

The first trailer for The Monuments Men has finally arrived.

The new movie — which features an all-star cast including Matt Damon, John Goodman, George Clooney and Bill Murray — follows a group of art historians working to recover stolen art from the Nazis.

Clooney opens the trailer saying: “If you destroy an entire generation of people’s culture, it’s as if they never existed. That’s what Hitler wants. And that’s the one thing we can’t allow.”

The movie is based on a book by Robert Edsel that tells the true story of a real platoon tasked with recovering art from the Nazis. The movie may deal with war, Nazis, and the extermination of an entire group of people, but Clooney says that the movie plays more like a fun adventure movie.

Clooney told USA Today: (We) were looking to do a film that was less cynical than a lot of the films we do… Grant Heslov had read the book at the airport… He gave it to me. We went into Sony and pitched it and got greenlit right there. The story was just so compelling.”

Here’s the trailer for The Monuments Men.

Heslov, who wrote the screenplay for movies like Goodnight and Good Luck and The Ides Of March, said that The Monuments Men tells a rare untold story from World War II.

Heslov said: “(Hitler) perpetrated the biggest art heist in the history of the world… And almost got away with it. It’s been a long time (since) you could find a new story about World War II.”
