Sad: Long Island comedy club to host Greg Giraldo’s scheduled gig this Saturday as tribute

The internet is still pretty sad over the unexpected death of comedian Greg Giraldo yesterday after he overdosed on prescription medication this weekend.

Giraldo, 44, was scheduled to appear at Long Island comedy club Governor’s this upcoming Friday. In light of the comedian and Last Comic Standing judge’s death, Governor’s has turned the planned gig into a memorial for the comic. At 10:30, when Giraldo was set to take the stage, the club will air DVDs of his performances on their TVs.

The cover for Giraldo’s performance was originally to be $25 with a two drink minimum. Instead, admission to the tribute event will be free and all proceeds collected will go to the late comedian’s family- including his three young children. TMZ spoke with the manager of Governor’s, who said that they were hoping to “commemorate his life” at Friday’s memorial. Plans for a memorial service or funeral for Giraldo, who was raised Catholic, have not been announced.
