Comic-Con 2013: ‘The Hobbit’ New Lego Set

The Hobbit cast and crew are not present at this year’s Comic-Con, but the film will still have a presence.

A new Lego set based on the second installment The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug will be revealed according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The report says that on Saturday, the company will unveil a new set of Lego pieces, based on the J.R.R. Tolkien film adaptations.

It is rumored that part of the characters included are Thorin (played by Richard Armitage) and Bilbo (played by Martin Freeman).

The new set is called Lake Town Chase, and will have about 334 pieces and retail for $49.99. Bilbo and Thorin are among the characters featured.

Last month, director Peter Jackson, broke millions of hearts when he announced that none of the cast would be able to be present at Comic-Con this year due to the last of the shooting wrapping up in New Zealand.

The Hobbit, is being filmed until the end of this month and after that the crew will enter into the post-production phase.

As reported by The Inquisitr Jackson explained that the plan was to originally see which cast members would be available to go to San Diego and participate in a panel as they did last year for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

However, as in any other production he is involved, anything presented at Comic Con has to be top quality. He adds that that being the case, he feels he cannot make something that will take him away from the production at this point.

Jackson is known for sharing more than most in his position, but in any case, millions of followers were totally disappointed with this piece of news. No panel for The Hobbit this year.

Several of the main characters have already wrapped up production, Ian McKellen, Martin Freeman, Orlando Bloom, and Luke Evans among them.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug opens in theaters December 13.
