Apple iPhone 5S: A Collection Of Rumors

The Apple iPhone 5S is expected to be announced soon, and that means the rumor mill is heading into full spin mode.

Every year around this time, “insiders” and “sources close to Apple” begin to hint at the potential for new and exciting smartphone advances. This time around, the “S” in iPhone 5S points to incremental changes to the company’s flagship product.

So what new features will the iPhone 5S offer? The most prominent report points to a fingerprint reader that will replace the device’s standard home button.

Fingerprint Reader for iPhone 5S

The fingerprint reader for the iPhone 5S will allow customers to better secure their devices. Choosing to use the feature for security will mean no more digital number entry or slide to unlock features required.

This rumor also points to the possibility of doubling the fingerprint reader as the device’s new home button.

Delays in production have been reported because of fingerprint reader yield issues associated with Apple’s acquisition of fingerprint reader tech firm AuthenTec.

iPhone 5S Display Size

Apple CEO Tim Cook has proclaimed repeatedly that the Apple iPhone 5S and other future smartphones will not increase screen size until display technology improves.

Cook’s biggest contention is that the iPhone 5S would have to give up battery lifespan for a display with less PPI and other muted features.

With that being said, some experts believe the iPhone 5S could push screen real estates to a slightly larger 4.3-inches.

Yet again, insiders are claiming the larger iPhone display size has also helped push back production.

iPhone 5S Camera, Processor and Connectivity

The Apple iPhone 5S is believed to feature a 12-megapixel camera, a 4MP increase over the iPhone 5. Apple is also believed to be including a dual-LED flash.

Also expected is a new A6 chipset that will boost processing power over the currently iPhone 5 model. That power will be helped along by an improved graphics card and improved RAM.

Finally Apple is expected to include LTE technology alongside near-field communication, which allows for virtual wallet apps.

As always, much of the company’s focus will likely rely on improvements to the iOS platform via an iOS 7 upgrade. When Samsung released the Galaxy S4 earlier this year, the company showcases a device that offers better overall user functions, something Apple will likely want to compete against.

Are you looking forward to the release of the Apple iPhone 5S, or will you wait for a new full model to be released?
