Carla Gugino Joins M. Night Shyamalan’s ‘Wayward Pines’

Carla Gugino has signed on for M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming FOX thriller Wayward Pines.

The so-called “event series” is based on the novel Pines by author Blake Crouch. The series is expected to make its debut on the network at some point next year.

Matt Dillon stars as Secret Service agent Ethan Burke. He is sent to the town of Wayward Pines in order to locate two missing federal agents. Unfortunately for Burke, he ends up with more questions than answers. Intense and “mind-bending” situations are expected to occur.

According to Reuters, Carla Gugino will play Dillon’s former partner who now calls Wayward Pines her home. Since the characters have a romantic history, viewers should anticipate a little sexual tension between Gugino and Dillon over the course of the series.

Wayward Pines is the latest effort from M. Night Shyamalan. The director is currently looking to recover from this year’s box office flop After Earth starring Will Smith. Although the film would eventually cross $199 million worldwide, it only managed to bring home $59 million in the US.

Deadline reports that Shyamalan will direct the first episode of the series. From that point forward, the filmmaker will serve as executive producer on Wayward Pines.

Carla Gugino recently joined Alan Partrige: Alpha Papa star Steve Coogan in the pilot for the David Shore drama Doubt. It’s currently unknown if this project is still moving forward. The actress has received strong reviews for her turn in the Broadway play A Kid Like Jake.

Gugino recently appeared as the voice of Kelor in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. She is also attached to star in the animated feature Almost Heroes 3D alongside Taylor Kitsch, Jon Heder, Tom Green, and Clerks star Jason Mewes. The film is expected to arrive in theaters next year.
