Alexi Ashe: Seth Meyers' Fiance Is Lawyer, Human Rights Advocate

Alexi Ashe is known mostly as the new fiance of Seth Meyers, but while her husband-to-be is basking in Saturday Night Live fame Alexis has carved out her own notoriety as a human rights advocate.

Ashe, who has a law degree from Southwestern University, has worked in a series of positions dealing with human trafficking, including working directly with victims from other countries.

Alexi met Seth Meyers at wedding several years ago, and have been dating ever since. For the past few years sources close to the couple said they were on the verge of getting married, and friend said the proposal was a long time coming.

“He’s very excited for the next phase of his life,” the insider said. “He’s known that she’s The One for awhile, but it was all about timing.”

Though they may be madly in love, Seth Meyers and his fiance appear to have chosen very different career paths. In the past Alexi Ashe has worked as a pro bono assistant district attorney with the King’s County District Attorney’s office. There she conducted investigations into long-term complex criminal prosecutions in the Sex Trafficking Unit.

Before that she was a legal intern with Human Rights First, researching protection protocol for victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking. Alexi also worked with international clients seeking asylum in the United States.

Seth Meyers popped the question at what seems to be a slightly less busy time for the couple. He just finished his 12-year stint as a player on Saturday Night Live (though he will stay on as lead writer through the fall) and plans to take over for Jimmy Fallon’s Late Night when Fallon moves into The Tonight Show in 2014.

“With Late Night, his schedule will be slowly easing up,” the source said of the couple’s timing. “He wanted to do it after SNL wrapped [because] he didn’t want to be an absentee fiance. Her family loves him.”

Though Alexi Ashe has become a human rights advocate and Seth Meyers made late-night television his calling, the two do share at least one passion. Alexi said they love to watch The Bachelor together.
