Haim Bassist ‘Almost Died’ Onstage At Glastonbury

The bass player for the band Haim, Este Haim, has revealed that she “almost died” when she played on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury earlier today.

Este, who is diabetic, stated that before she started the band’s performance at lunchtime, she had forgotten to eat. Este then noted that during their show she noticed that her arms had gone numb half-way through a song and she also proclaimed that she thought she was going to pass out.

Este told NME, “I almost died. We were in the middle of a song and I’m diabetic and I didn’t eat before my set like a smart, good diabetic does, and I remember not being able to feel my arms, and I was like ‘This is not a normal feeling when I’m playing music.'”

She then added, “And I thought that I was gonna pass out and my eyes kind of glazed over at the end of the song and I had to go offstage because I thought that I was going to die in front of 25,000 people.”

However, Este then joked then joked that if she had perished onstage it would have made for “an amazing funeral. The most beautiful way to die!”

This isn’t the first brush with death an artist performing at the festival has had, with Mumford & Son’s bassist, Ted Dwayne, recovering from brain surgery just in time to play at the world’s biggest music festival.

Mumford & Sons said of their bassists speedy recovery, “All we feel is incredibly grateful and happy that he’s going to be OK and that we’re going to get back out on that stage at Glastonbury as four brothers and do what we do.”

Ben Lovett, the band’s keyboard player, said of his injury, “To be honest Ted dealt with the whole thing better than any of us could have imagine.”

Do you think bassists are cursed at this year’s Glastonbury?
