Beyonce’s Father Sues British Tabloid For Defamation

Matthew Knowles, also known as Beyonce’s father, filed a lawsuit against British tabloid The Sun for defamation of character.

According to court documents, Knowles agreed to an interview with reporter Georgina Dickinson under the condition that no personal issues would be discussed. When the article was finally published, Beyonce’s dad was shocked at what Dickinson had written.

The Wrap reports the article in question contained a lot of false information. Dickinson said Matthew Knowles was involved in a “bitter rift with his famous daughter — admitting he is devastated at being pushed out of her life.”

The Sun article also stated Knowles hadn’t met Beyonce’s daughter Blue Ivy. Unfortunately for the tabloid, there is photographic evidence which proves this isn’t the case.

To add insult to injury, Knowles was also promises payment by the publisher. As of this writing, The Sun has yet to cough up the money they originally promised.

According to Contact Music, Beyonce’s father is seeking unspecified damages in his lawsuit against The Sun. In addition to defamation, Matthew Knowles is suing the tabloid for breach of contract.

“My daughters and my family mean the world to me. The barrage of repeated falsehoods spawned by the British Sun’s defamatory article has been exhausting and personally damaging to me,” Knowles said in a statement to E! Online.

He continued, “No matter how many papers it sells or web hits it generates, The Sun, like any newspaper, needs to maintain a basic level of journalistic integrity. The Sun crossed the line when it went after my family. The Sun needs to be held responsible for its lies in a court of law. This happens too often to too many people, and it is simply unfair.”

What do you think about the lawsuit Beyonce’s father Matthew Knowles filed against The Sun? Do you think the tabloid should have to pay for printing falsehoods about the Knowles family?
