Batman: Arkham Asylum sequel revealed, Catwoman involved

The long-expected sequel to last year’s Batman: Arkham Asylum has been revealed as Batman: Arkham City.

Batman: Arkham Asylum was possibly the best superhero game ever, and developer Rocksteady Studios will be aiming to repeat the trick with Arkham City, which is due to be released in Fall 2011 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

News of the sequel was broken by a teaser from games mag Game Informer, which also confirmed the presence of Catwoman in the game. A press release has since landed in my inbox, explaining the following:

Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security ‘home’ for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds.

“Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.”

Also worth mentioning: the next issue of Game Informer will be offered with a couple of sweet alternative covers, one of which features Catwoman. Go here to see them in full hi-res:
