New GoldenEye game in the pipeline

Most gamers of a certain age fondly recall GoldenEye 007, the Nintendo 64’s seminal first-person shooter, and Activision will be looking to MERCILESSLY EXPLOIT such nostalgic memories this November with the release of James Bond: GoldenEye, for the Wii and Nintendo DS.

The game was confirmed today as being in development, but the project remains somewhat shrouded in mystery. Is it a direct remake of the 1997 classic or not? Activision isn’t saying, though as original developer Rare isn’t involved, it might just be a new game that will probably sell a few copies on its name alone. Whatever it is, it’s being shown next week at the E3 expo.

I, for one, hope it isn’t a remake of the N64 classic. As much as I loved GoldenEye 007, its sequel Perfect Dark was released on the Xbox Live Arcade service in March, and has clearly aged badly. I’m thinking GoldenEye in 2010 will feel just as creaky.
