Robert Pattinson, New Face Of Dior: Rejoicing Not Optional

Robert Pattinson, Dior, we’ve been expecting you.

Parfums Christian Dior have confirmed long-standing rumors that Pattinson is their new face of Dior Homme fragrance.

The fashion house’s announcement read: [Partial]

“Today we are excited to announce that he will join the privileged circle of Dior faces. Photographed by American artist Nan Goldin and filmed by French director Romain Gavras, this new Dior Homme communication campaign is currently broadcast exclusively in Europe (except UK) and Asia (except China and Japan).”

Interesting note: Goldin, an edgy photographer, whose portfolio includes such work as “The Ballad of Sexual Dependency,” famously once described perfume as “reprehensible and evil.” Clearly things have changed.

But back to Pattinson. News of the 27-year-old’s fashion gig is a welcome end to the speculation that has swirled since October 2012, when E! first reported that Pattinson had inked a $12 million deal with Dior.

At the time the luxury brand refused to confirm or deny the rumors. If you’re wondering what to expect from the campaign to come, this may interest you.

Back in March, the UK’S The Sun reported that Pattinson’s Dior’s fashion shoot was “steamy.” The newspaper was quite explicit in its description, which it said it obtained from a Dior source. It’s republished here purely in the interests of journalism.

“The advert is sexually explicit. It is pushing the boundaries of what you can get away with in advertising. Robert is topless for part of it and kissing one of the [three] models with tongues. He really gets stuck in.”

“There’s another scene where he takes part in a foursome in various states of undress, although it’s not clear whether those scenes will make the final cut.”

As well as treading in the footsteps of previous and present Dior faces — Jude Law, Charlize Theron and Natalie Portman — the Cosmopolis actor has a full and exciting 2013 film slate.

Having recently wrapped filming on David Michod’s The Rover which co-stars Guy Pearce, Pattinson will reteam with David Cronenberg for Maps to the Stars alongside Julianne Moore, John Cusack and a slew of other actors.

The Brit is also starring with Carey Mulligan in Hold On To Me, Werner Herzog’s Queen of the Desert, although that seems to be in flux after Law’s departure and other acting commitments of Naomi Watts. Pattinson is also expected to begin filming Mission: Blacklist at some point.
