Things are about to get very Beastly for cinema. Currently Disney has its own re-imagining of Beauty And The Beas t, and now stills have been released of what’s sure to be a radically different adaptation of the film. The film titled Beauty And The Beast is directed by Christopher Gans of Silent Hill fame. Gans’ version stars import Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux.

Unlike the tale captured by Disney, this story will take a different approach. Finally we have the first look at just how different it will be. In the film Lea Seydoux plays the Beauty (Belle), and terrific character-actor Vincent Cassel the beast, who proves to be quite menacing just standing still in a scene.

Through the director’s statement, it is said that Gans is hoping that the contemporary feel of the original Beauty And The Beast story will captivate audiences. In the statement Gans says : “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST is the story of a family going through a crisis, having lost all of its possessions when the father was ruined. The encounter – at first terrifying, but then voluptuous – with this mythical Beast provides our characters with an opportunity to get back on their feet. I like to think that this film is a metaphor for the situation that is currently afflicting the world. That is one of the advantages of fairy tales, to present an ensemble of values that endure through the ages”

The original Beauty And The Beast is said to be written by Madame de Villeneuve and published in 1740. However this isn’t the version that Walt Disney wanted to bring to the screen, and finally with Gans’ adaptation we will be able to see what is probably closer to the original story.

What are your thoughts about this reinvention of Beauty And The Beast ?
