‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Casts Evan Peters As Quicksilver

American Horror Story star Evan Peters has joined the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past as Quicksilver.

Director Bryan Singer made the announcement on Twitter, writing, “Before he was an #Avenger, he was just a REALLY fast kid. Thrilled to say #EvanPeters is joining XMen DaysOfFuturePast as #Quicksilver.”

Quicksilver falls into a gray area in terms of rights. He and his sister Scarlet Witch are both members of The Avengers, which means Marvel Studios (which is behind The Avengers franchise) has the right to their characters. However, since they are also mutants, 20th Century Fox also has the rights to the characters. But what makes this even more of a conundrum is the fact that Joss Whedon has said both Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would appear in The Avengers 2.

According to Cinema Blend, the catch here is that, if Marvel does use Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in The Avengers 2, the fact that they are mutants cannot be acknowledged.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige has acknowledged that there are characters that can be used by both studios, but he did not specify if they could be used at the same time or in the same universe.

Fox has the upper hand at this point, since Days of Future Past is currently filming for a 2014 release, and The Avengers 2 doesn’t start filming until next year for a 2015 release. Whether this new development will mean that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are dropped from the script will remain to be seen.

In the meantime, Evan Peters can be seen in American Horror Story: Coven, which will premiere on FX in October. Peters will be joined by real-life girlfriend Emma Roberts, series veterans Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy, Lily Rabe, and Sarah Paulson, and newcomers Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Patti LuPone, and Gabourey Sidibe. Season 1 star Taissa Farmiga will also be returning.

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters July 18, 2014.

What do you think of Quicksilver being added to X-Men: Days of Future Past? Will he also be used in The Avengers 2? Do you think Evan Peters was a good choice?
