‘The Great Gatsby’ Rockets Up To ‘Iron Man 3’

The Great Gatsby has rocketed up to Iron Man 3 this weekend.

Tony Stark may want to check behind him, as Jay Gatsby is catching up quickly. It’s a clash of the rich titans as Iron Man 3 prepares to battle The Great Gatsby at the Box Office. And with Star Trek Into Darkness coming up next week, the battle could be fierce.

Shane Black’s superhero megahit has been dominating since its release among fellow films Pain & Gain and 42, decking it out with Michael Bay’s lower-budget weight trainer film for the number one spot.

Iron Man 3 has currently brought in $19.8 million, barely leading The Great Gatsby at $19.4 million.

In The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his neighbor Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) are at odds. Gatsby is attempting to use a lavish party to relive the past and rekindle an old romance with Nick’s cousin Daisy (Carey Mulligan), now a married woman. Nick is caught in the crossfire as Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton) learns of Gatsby’s intentions toward his wife.

In Iron Man 3, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is beaten down in the midst of a mid-life crisis of sorts, and left for dead by a villain who tries to remain anonymous. Tony’s friends James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) and Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) help him out by donning suits of Tony’s armor and getting him back on his feet to finally deal with the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley).

How long will it be before The Great Gatsby takes over the top spot from Iron Man 3?

The Great Gatsby is reportedly outperforming expectations by leaps and bounds at the Box Office. It may be a combination of classic storytelling from a novel and the draw of Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire. In any case, Iron Man 3 will need to keep its thrusters going if it intends to keep the New York philanderer in check.

What film do you think will come out on top by Monday? Will it be The Great Gatsby or Iron Man 3?
