Bethenny Gets Confused About Gender Identity

The Skinnygirl founder shared that Bryn's school was adamant in teaching their students proper pronoun usage and gender identity, which is confusing for Frankel.

She goes on to share that an incident in a local camp (which her daughter didn't attend) made some parents angry.

“It’s an all-girls camp and a person with a penis, who identifies as being a girl, went to the camp and was in the bunk with the girls. And the girls saw her — because it’s her, because it’s a male anatomy but identifying as a woman — so the other girls saw a penis. They’re 9, 10 years old, so the parents obviously weren’t that happy.”

Reactions From People On Twitter

People were upset about Bethenny's comments, saying her words were "hurtful" and "offensive".

One Twitter user suggested that Frankel needed to do some research first before speaking about such things.

Not everyone, however, shared the same sentiment. There were also some who agreed with Bethenny:

"I don’t see the problem w/Bethany’s intro. What did I miss? Parents are supposed to protect their kids. A frank discussion on real concerns w/a transitioning girl at a girls camp. Girls were exposed to male body parts very young. Plus there were make-outs. Is that really hate?" one user commented on the thread.

Comedian Dave Chappelle is another celebrity currently in the spotlight for his remarks on gender identity .

Chapelle's latest Netflix special The Closer has been labeled as "dangerously transphobic content".

"They canceled J.K. Rowling — my God,” Chappelle said in his show. "Effectively, she said gender was a fact, the trans community got mad as (expletive), they started calling her a TERF," a term that means trans-exclusionary radical feminist.

“I’m Team TERF. I agree. I agree, man. Gender is a fact,” he added.

The controversial show raised protests within Netflix. LGBTQ activists and supporters are planning to do a company-wide walkout on October 20th.

The organizer of the planned walkout has already been fired for reportedly leaking sensitive Netflix data to the press.

“We have let go of an employee for sharing confidential, commercially sensitive information outside the company,” a spokesperson from Netflix said.

“We understand this employee may have been motivated by disappointment and hurt with Netflix, but maintaining a culture of trust and transparency is core to our company.”
