Jamie Foxx In Talks For ‘Annie’ Reboot

It was only a few weeks ago that we announced Quvenzhane Wallis would replace Willow Smith in the lead role of Annie for the Overbrook Entertainment reboot of the classic film.

Now it’s being reported that the film might have found its Daddy Warbucks in Jamie Foxx. A no-brainer, if Foxx works out negotiations with Sony, and producers Will Smith and Jay-Z we may be looking at a promising film.

So far this is what we know of the Annie reboot. Romcom director Will Gluck is taking the steering wheel on the project by directing, and Smith and his Overbrook Entertainment company, along with partner James Lassiter, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Jay-Z are all producing. Jay-Z is also overlooking the whole musical score, which makes sense considering the rapper had a big smash hit remaking “Hard Knock Life” in the 90s. In addition, Jay Brown and Tyran “Ty Ty Smith” are producing through Marcy Media.

The original script for the reboot is written by actress-screenwriter Emma Thompson but has recently been revised by Gluck, a good move considering Sony wants a late fall date for production to start, with an anticipated 2014 release.

Of course this wouldn’t be the only musical adapted film that Foxx has taken on. In the past Foxx has made impressive leaps in Dreamgirls, and won the Oscar for Best Lead for his portrayal as Ray Charles in the 2004 biopic Ray.

Currently Foxx is shooting a Sony project, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which he plays villain Electro and will star opposite Andrew Garfield. In addition he’s also starring in the studio’s action flick White House Down, with Channing Tatum, which will open June 28.

Looks like a promising fit for all sides. What do you think about Jamie Foxx possibly joining the Annie reboot as Daddy Warbucks?
