Theme parks at Disney will be open 24 hours consecutively this Memorial Day weekend, the Mouse announced today, as a precursor to the big summer tourism season.
The Disney 24-hour promotion is part of a larger push called “Monstrous Summer,” tied in with the coming Pixar and Disney film Monsters University.
In Florida, where Walt Disney World is located, Magic Kingdom Park’s all-nighter begins at 6 AM May 24, going until 6 PM on May 25. The same hours apply for Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park in California.
Walt Disney World President George Kalogridis announced the Disney 24-hour opening alongside Monsters, Inc.‘s Mike, saying of the all-nighter across three parks:
“This summer, Disney Parks are bursting with a monstrous lineup of new thrills, shows and happenings … Guests can start Memorial Day Weekend with a 24-hour-marathon of memory-making as three Parks stay open all day and all night to celebrate the bi-coastal kick-off of a Monstrous Summer at Disney Parks.”
Mike and his co-star Sulley will host the event, and be the Grand Marshals of the “Celebrate a Dream Come True” day parade at Florida’s Magic Kingdom. Late-night dance parties are slated for Cinderella Castle, and characters late at night and early in the morning will traverse the grounds in pajamas to celebrate the fact Disney is open 24 hours consecutively for the first time.
Disney first announced the 24-hour open hours on Twitter, telling fans:
