Will.i.am Admits He ‘Borrowed’ Music For Song ‘Let’s Go’

Black Eyed Peas singer Will.i.am recently admitted that he stole the music from Arty and Mat Zo’s song “Rebound” for his new track featuring Chris Brown called “Let’s Go.”

According to the singer, he is a big fan of Arty and loved the song “Rebound.” Will.i.am admitted that he used the music from “Rebound” as the foundation for his song “Let’s Go.”

The singer said that he showed his version to Arty and told him that he was going to change the copyrighted parts because he didn’t want to steal the song. After a year passed, however, Will.i.am decided that he liked the version of “Let Go” featuring Arty’s track better.

The Black Eyed Peas singer said that he’s now trying to workout some clearance issues on the track.

Will.i.am said:

“Arty is a dope producer so I wrote this song to ‘Rebound’ this last year … I got in touch with Arty and showed it to him, did a different version to it ’cause I asked him [to] make it newer ’cause I don’t just wanna take your song and rap over it … But in a year’s time, time’s gone by [and] we preferred writing over and using the [original] rebound. Something happened and the clearance … hopefully we resolved the issue.”

Will.i.am’s version of events seems pretty innocent. He started working on a song with a sample of Arty’s track, then contacted the producer to talk about how to proceed. Now he’s just trying to work out the legal issues.

But the Huffington Post reports that Arty has previously claimed that he never heard “Let’s Go” until it showed up on YouTube.

Will.i.am said: “I’m a fan of Arty. I think he’s great and the world needs to know about how talented those guys are. It’s sad that it’s turned into a fiasco but hopefully it’s resolved because I’m a fan of those guys to the point where I wrote to their instrumental.”
