Lionel Messi Breaking Records Again, Scores For 19th Game In A Row

Lionel Messi has been doing what he does best again: Scoring goals and shattering records.

The 25-year-old Barcelona forward scored for the 19th La Liga game in a row on Saturday, getting his name on the scoresheet in a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo.

The feat extends Messi‘s remarkable run of scoring in consecutive matches, and also means the Argentinian has scored against every team in La Liga consecutively; Messi is the first player in Spanish football history to achieve this.

Messi has bagged 29 goals during his remarkable 19-game run, with his tally in all competitions this season now standing at an incredible 56. To put Messi’s 19-game streak in perspective, the previous La Liga record for goals scored in consecutive matches stood at 10 games. Messi has almost doubled that.

Although a late Celta Vigo equalizer may have taken some of the gloss off the record, Barcelona remain well-placed to win La Liga. The Catalan side are 13 points clear of second-placed Real Madrid with nine games to play.

Lionel Messi is no stranger to breaking records. Previously, the pint-sized maestro has set records for most goals scored in a calendar year, most goals scored in a Champions League match, and has been awarded the Ballon d’Or for a record four consecutive years.

Messi also remains the leading scorer in all European leagues for 2013, with 17 goals to his name. Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has 14, while Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski has scored 10.

And the best thing about Messi? He scores great goals.
