Sofia Vergara In Talks To Star In ‘Heat’ Remake

Sofia Vergara is in talks to star in the remake of the 1986 Burt Reynolds flick Heat.

Should the Modern Family actress sign on for the project, she will star opposite action hero Jason Statham in the flick.

SJ Pictures, Quad Productions and Current Entertainment will produce the upcoming remake. Expendables 2 and Con Air director Simon West has been brought in to direct the movie.

Sofia Vergara will star as a woman who is attacked by a high-ranking member of the Las Vegas mob. Jason Statham plays a troubled bodyguard who decides to exact a little revenge.

Not to be confused with the 1995 Michael Mann film starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, Dick Richards’ Heat was based on the novel by The Princess Bride writer William Goldman. The author also adapted the film for the big screen.

Goldman will also handle scripting duties on Simon West’s version of the story. It’s unclear when the film is expected to begin production.

In addition to the Heat remake, Sofia Vergara is also slated to appear in Desperado director Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills. The recently-released poster for the sequel showcases just how far over-the-top Rodriguez and company are willing to go.

Machete Kills has been described as follows:

“Danny Trejo returns as the Mexican anti-hero, Machete, in this follow-up from Robert Rodriguez. Mel Gibson joins returning cast members Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba as a maniacal arms dealer intent to start a nuclear war in this 20th Century Fox release.”

The one-sheet has been embedded below.

Sofia Vergara will also appear in Raja Gosnell’s The Smurfs 2. The actress will play Odile Anjelou in the upcoming live action-CGI follow-up. The family-friendly film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters across the US on July 31.
