Ewan McGregor Wants To Play Obi-Wan Kenobi In Star Wars Spin-Off

Ewan McGregor has revealed his interest in reprising his role as a young Obi-Wan Kenobi for a Star Wars spin-off film.

JJ Abrams has already signed up to direct Star Wars: Episode VII for Disney and Lucasfilm. But the company has also announced its intention to release several spin-off Star Wars films, which has surely come about after the success of The Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America movies.

Talking to MTV News, McGregor stated, “I’d be up for it. I think it’s a good idea. The only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, ‘Episode III,’ before Alec Guinness, there’s that period where he’s in the desert. That might be my window to tell that story. I don’t know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff.”

Disney are currently working on stand alone movies for the characters Han Solo and Boba Fett.

McGregor isn’t the first Star Wars actor to announce his desire to play their character from the series again. Frank Oz, who voiced Yoda in the franchise is rumored to be preparing for a spin-off film of his own, whilst Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill have both declared their intentions to play Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker respectively.

The Han Solo, Yoda, and Boba Fett movies are reportedly being scribed by The Empire Strikes Back’s Lawrence Kasdan and Sherlock Holmes’ Simon Kinberg, whilst Toy Story 3’s Michael Arndt is writing Star Wars Episode VII, which is due out in 2015.
