Phillip Phillips’ Mother Arrested For DUI After Split From Husband

Albany, GA – Phillip Phillips’ mother has been busted for DUI, according to a report from TMZ.

Cheryl Phillips, the mother of the American Idol Season 11 winner, was pulled over by cops on Thursday afternoon and booked after failing a field sobriety test.

Phillip Phillips’ mother was stopped in Albany, Georgia at around 1PM. Cops pulled her over after seeing her car swaying all over the road and hitting a curb. After conducting a field test, police ordered Phillips to hospital for a blood test, with the results due in the coming weeks.

TMZ reveals that Cheryl was charged with “DUI Less Safe,” a term used when a DUI suspect is found to be under the influence of a substance other than alcohol.

Major Bill Berry of the Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit said:

“They didn’t smell or detect any alcohol on her person, but she couldn’t complete the field sobriety test so our guys charged her with less safe since she was under the influence of something.”

TMZ adds that Phillip Phillips’ mother split with her husband last week, though it is unknown whether the DUI incident is related.

Cheryl Phillips made regular appearances on American Idol as her son fought his way to the final and triumphed over Jessica Sanchez. She was also seen by the 22-year-old’s side as he went on a homecoming parade in Leesburg, Georgia last May (above).
