Kristen Bell Uses This Classic Disney Tale To Teach Daughters An Important Lesson
The ways and views of the world have certainly changed over the course of the last almost century, and that includes the way that Disney princesses are portrayed. Actress Kristen Bell is known for many roles, but to Disney fans of the world, she is Princess Anna in Frozen. That’s why it may come as a bit of a surprise that she doesn’t necessarily approve of the message given out by Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
As reported by ET Online, Bell and husband Dax Shepard have two daughters – 5-year-old Lincoln and 3-year-old Delta. They are both very busy with their acting careers, but they still make sure to find time for family and doing the things that are important to all of them.
Bell states that her “favorite part of the day” is actually reading to her children, but she won’t just pick any book. She wants to make sure that the lessons she is teaching her children are something that won’t get them into situations like those that Snow White ended up in.
“Every time we close Snow White I look at my girls and ask, ‘Don’t you think it’s weird that Snow White didn’t ask the old witch why she needed to eat the apple? Or where she got that apple?’ I say, ‘I would never take food from a stranger, would you?’ And my kids are like, ‘No!’ And I’m like, ‘OK, I’m doing something right.'”
As she told Parents magazine, though, there are many other lessons to learn from Snow White as to what kids should not do. And it’s not just about taking food from random strangers, but Bell said she wants her daughters to realize that the ending of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs isn’t too great either. There is that kiss given to her by The Prince at the end of the film, which did not take place with consent.
“Don’t you think that it’s weird that the prince kisses Snow White without her permission? Because you can not kiss someone if they’re sleeping!”

Bell wants to teach her daughter the right lessons about life and do it at an early age even if it means speaking against the classics, but she isn’t the only one. Pirates of the Caribbean actress Keira Knightley also spoke out against numerous Disney animated classics this week and even said some of them were banned in her home.

Knightley was a recent guest of Ellen DeGeneres and spoke out against the Disney films, as she won’t let her 3-year-old daughter Righton watch some of them. The actress even said that she loves The Little Mermaid, but she’s “keeping to it” for the sake of her child. She does, however, approve of Frozen and Moana as some of the favorites in her home that are “totally fine.”
Kristen Bell has made a huge name for herself in all of her ventures as an actress and she is a fixture in the Disney community as Princess Anna. The sequel to Frozen is hitting theaters late next year and she will be back for it, but she’s standing her ground on certain things for her daughters. Snow White may be the first true Disney Princess, but times have changed and the message sent by her story/movie simply isn’t something that everyone agrees on.
