‘Dead Space 3’ Gets ‘Awakened’ DLC Next Month

Although players just started their adventure through Dead Space 3 today (February 5), Electronic Arts already has a DLC pack waiting in the wings.

Gamers who are eager for more deep space terror are encouraged to check out Awakened when it becomes available for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 next month. According to the official press release, players will be able to “experience the franchise’s darkest chapters as the Necromorph battles become even more gruesome and terrifying than ever before.”

Visceral Games’ Steve Papoutsis explained:

“With ‘Dead Space 3’ our goal was to evolve the franchise bringing in innovative new features like drop-in/drop-out co-op, weapon crafting, and an engaging atmosphere while still retaining the incredible suspense, horror, action and sound that the series is known for.

“Gamers are going to be thrown in and out of space, taken to a violent new ice planet and allowed to explore several different abandoned spaceships and caves. But we’re not stopping there. In ‘Dead Space 3 Awakened,’ gamers will experience some of the most disturbing content they have ever seen in a Dead Space game — they are going to love it.”

Although an exact date has been announced, gamers can expect to explore new levels of terror at some point next month. The game will cost $9.99 on Playstation 3, while Xbox 360 owners can expect to spend 800 MS Points.

EA’s press release sites Dead Space 3 as one of the most anticipated games of the year. However, reviews posted so far have been mixed.

The folks at Machinima had this to say about the title:

“No doubt, ‘Dead Space 3’ stumbles — pretty hard — in some spots. But it also feels like this is Visceral honing its craft. The combat and pacing are the best they have ever been and some choices invest you in the experience, even if it’s a bummer the story doesn’t hold up.”
