Judge Rips Iverson: Family Court Judge Slams Allen Iverson’s Parenting Skills

An Atlanta judge had some harsh words for Allen Iverson this week in a statement that rips apart the basketball player’s parenting skills. Iverson has a storied sports career and was once one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history.

The lashing came as part of the final divorce decree between the basketball player and his wife Tawanna Iverson. During the proceedings Tawanna Iverson was granted legal and physical custody of the couple’s five children.

According to an article by TMZ, following the court’s ruling in favor of maternal custody, the Atlanta family court judge issued the following statement directed at Allen Iverson:

“[Iverson] does not know how to manage the children; has little interest in learning to manage the children and has actually, at times, been a hindrance to their spiritual and emotional growth and development. For example, he has refused to attend to an obvious and serious alcohol problem, which has caused him to do inappropriate things in the presence of the children while impaired. He has left the children alone without supervision. He has left his young daughters in a hotel room with men who are unknown to the mother.”

An article by Complex Media writes that the ruling will also put restrictions on Iverson’s visitation rights. In part, he will be expected to meet with a mental health professional and seek help for alcohol addiction.

In addition, he will now be required to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for a year and may not consume alcohol for an 18 month duration. As long as his children are of minor age Iverson will be prohibited from alcohol consumption in the 24 hour period prior to a visitation.

Allen Iverson has not publicly commented on his reaction to the judge’s ruling or the statement which rips apart his parenting skills.
