Daniel Craig May Not Return For ‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ Sequel

Daniel Craig is apparently holding up production on the upcoming Girl with the Dragon Tattoo sequel coming together at 20th Century Fox.

Although the movie made over $230 million at the box office, producers don’t view the movie as being overwhelmingly successful. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio is looking to cut costs on the proposed sequel.

However, Daniel Craig has apparently caused production to screech to a halt after he decided he needed a pay raise for the follow-up. Since the actor’s latest James Bond flick Skyfall generated over $1 billion worldwide, Craig is looking to increase the size of his paycheck.

GeekTyrant explains that the actor is interested in reprising his role in the sequel. However, getting him in front of the camera means that 20th Century Fox will have to shell out even more money. Since producers are looking to decrease the size of the film’s budget, there’s a strong chance Craig may not return.

Of course, the studio will still have to rewrite the script if Daniel is out of the picture. Sources state that the screenplay is currently ready to go. If they can’t reach an agreement with Craig, then producers will have no choice but to order a rewrite.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher is reportedly interested in helming the sequel. However, the acclaimed filmmaker is currently in the process of adapting the novel Gone Girl for the big screen. However, this doesn’t mean he wouldn’t return for The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Fox better act quickly if they want to secure Craig for the sequel. In addition to Bond 24, the actor is slated to appear in writer-director George Clooney’s upcoming drama The Monuments Men. The film arrives in theaters on December 18.
