Lena Dunham Won’t Get Married Until Gay Marriage Is Legalized

Looks like Lena Dunham is on her way to being a huge advocate to the LGBT community, or at least get major props for what she had to say last night at the Golden Globes.

It was a huge night for the series creator, writer, actress, and executive producer of Girls. The star took home two Golden Globe awards for Best Actress and Best Comedy Series.

However, Dunham showed she was more than a winner when addressing her current relationship plans with boyfriend Jack Antonoff. During her acceptance speech for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, Dunham had called Antonoff her “family.” The comment during the speech had raised some eyebrows in curiosity over her relationship status.

Is Lena Dunham engaged? Nope! In fact, when the actress was asked backstage at the Golden Globes, Dunham said “I am not engaged. I don’t want to get married until all gay people can get married.”

Dunham isn’t the first public figure in the entertainment industry to air her feelings about the legalization of gay marriage. She follows the footsteps of Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard as well as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (assuming the latter hasn’t already gotten hitched.)

This isn’t the first time Lena Dunham has spoken about gay rights. In October, she tweeted in support of Obama and his stance on gay rights.

Later on during a live chat, Dunham said, “I hope one day to be able to dance my ass off at my sister’s wedding. She’s gay and the idea that we would not share the same set of rights is horrifying to me.”

What do you think about Lena Dunham’s comments on gay rights? Did you DVR or TiVo the season premiere of her HBO show Girls last night?
