Former action hero and comeback kid Arnold Schwarzenegger recently revealed that Legend of Conan could start shooting as early as this May.
During an early screening of the actor’s upcoming action effort The Last Stand, Schwarzenegger took questions from the fans who were in attendance. According to Screen Rant, the actor revealed that filming on the forthcoming sequel could start towards the beginning of this summer.
Although the sequel was proposed back in the 80s, Arnold’s decision to make Predator effectively squashed any hopes of the film getting off the ground. Several years and one failed reboot later, Schwarzenegger says Universal is finally ready to get down to business.
The actor explained:
“Well, Universal Studios has for the first time, six months ago, expressed interest even though I’ve now asked for the last ten years to get serious about the Conan series and not look at it as a B-movie or just an edgy action movie but as any quality movie and hire the best directors and the best writers.”
Ain’t It Cool News explains that Arnold Schwarzenegger is interested in making another serious Conan film in the same vein as its 80s predecessors. Instead of aiming for something violent and empty-headed, the actor said he’s anxious to make something a bit more substantial.
A Universal executive allegedly told Arnold:
“You’re absolutely right. The previous regime has missed the boat here. We want to pick it up. We’re going to buy the rights and we’re going to be serious about it and make a quality film with an A-director and with A-writers and so on. And we want you to participate in this. We want you to star and you to play Conan. We’re going to take a story where Conan is at that age so it’s totally believable and you’re not looking like a 30-year old action guy.”
47 Ronin scribe Chris Morgan is rumored to be tackling the script. However, it’s reported that he may take on the role of producer as well. It’s currently unknown who will get behind the camera for the proposed Conan sequel.
