Cat Caught Sneaking Saw And Phone Into Brazilian Prison

Authorities at a prison in Brazil caught a curious criminal earlier this week when they apprehended a cat sneaking onto the premises with a saw, phone, and other items. The contraband-carrying kitty was detained by officials at the prison gates for closer inspection.

On January 1, on-duty guards were astonished to find the white-furred felon making its way across the main gate of the northern Brazilian prison grounds. The fuzzy feline’s body appeared to be wound with tape securely attaching several objects.

A report by Reuters writes that upon closer inspection, prison officials were stunned to find the sneaky kitty was laden with contraband. The tape was holding in place a bevy of items which included a mobile phone and charger, a saw, drills, a memory card, batteries, and an earphone.

The curious case of the criminal cat took place at a prison located in the city of Arapiraca, a city of 215,000 people in the state of Alagoas. Local authorities in northeast Brazil are continuing to investigate all possible causes for the unusual kitty crime.

There are currently 263 inmates being detained at the Brazilian prison. Each of the prisoners could feasibly be considered a suspect. An article by BBC News writes that a spokesperson for the prison cheekily remarked to a local newspaper:

“It’s tough to find out who’s responsible for the action as the cat doesn’t speak.”

The cat accomplice was transported to a local animal disease center and is receiving care from a medical staff. It is presumed that the objects it carried were meant as tools for escape or communication by an inmate. The odd kitty caper is beginning to receive national attention as authorities search for the feline’s partner-in-crime.
