San Jose Apartment Fire Leaves Three Dead

Investigators in San Jose are looking through the rubble of an apartment as they attempt to determine the cause of a fire that killed three people and injured three others late Saturday.

Fire Department Capt. Mary Gutierrez said that shortly after 11 pm Saturday, when firefighters reached the scene they found some people trapped in the flames of the burning apartment on the second floor of the complex on Bridgeport Court. After the fire had been extinguished, the bodies of a man, a woman and a child were discovered, says ABC News.

Gutierrez says three other people, including a San Jose officer on the scene who aided in the rescue from the flames, were taken to area hospitals after suffering smoke inhalation in the blaze.

The names of the those found dead have not been released, according to CBS San Francisco.

The building’s fifty-six residents have been displaced. The American Red Cross is in charge of finding housing for the displaced residents.

Gutierrez adds:

“It’s not an easy investigation, it’s going to be a long investigation.”

More details will be released as the investigation continues.
