Jessa Duggar Shares A Video That Has Fans Concerned For Baby Henry’s Safety During Mealtime

Jessa Duggar has started introducing her youngest son to new foods, and his recent experience with a bite-sized treat has some Duggar fans worried that mealtime may end in disaster for the little boy.

On Friday, Jessa Duggar shared an Instagram video of her 8-month-old son, Henry Elliot Seewald, grappling with one of his first finger foods. In the short video, the little boy uses one finger to slide a morsel of food across the table before picking it up and slowly holding it to his lips. Henry takes the tiniest taste of the unfamiliar treat, but he then proceeds to wave it around in the air a bit before putting the entire bite in his mouth. His father, Ben Seewald, narrates the moment that the uncertain tot finally decides to give this strange new snack a chance.

“He’s like, ‘Well, I don’t know if I have any other choice now that it’s in my hand,'” Ben says.

The puffy white treat sticks to Henry’s bottom lip while he makes a disgusted face and moves his jaw up and down. He holds it in his mouth for a few tense moments until he starts to drool, then he seemingly makes an attempt to swallow. However, most of the food ends up with the drool on his shirt.

“He takes after his mother. Haha! This is me trying a new food for the first time.???? #babysfirstfoods,” Jessa captioned the video.

After watching Henry struggle to eat, a few Duggar fans expressed concern about his snack being a potential choking hazard.

“You shouldn’t give him popcorn it makes them choke,” wrote one of Jessa Duggar’s Instagram followers.

“If that is popcorn watch out. The two biggest checking hazards for babies and toddlers are popcorn and hot dogs,” another commented.

However, other fans were quick to jump to Jessa’s defense. They pointed out that the finger food that Henry almost eats in the video is actually a special snack puff that’s supposed to be safe for babies. According to TODAY, the American Academy of Pediatrics tested a variety of mass-produced finger foods for babies, and it found that at least one brand of grain puffs, Gerber Graduates, dissolved quickly in a baby’s mouth. This makes the snack food less likely to be a choking hazard.

According to WebMD, babies can start eating finger foods between the ages of 7 and 11 months. Parents will know that their children are ready for this exciting new experience when they can sit up on their own and use their fingers to place objects in their mouth. Henry will turn 9-months-old on November 6, so he’s in the right age range. He’s also sitting up in his highchair, but some of Jessa Duggar’s followers have noticed something about the red cloth seat that they find worrisome.

“Does it make anyone else nervous the chair is ripping?” asked one of the Counting On star’s Instagram followers.

“His seat looks unsafe.. the fabric is all tore up,” another wrote.

The material on one of the seat’s arms does appear to be frayed, and some Duggar fans think that this puts Henry in a precarious situation. Some commenters noted that his highchair appears to be the type that attaches to a tabletop, which means that it has no legs. They fear that the damaged fabric puts him at risk of falling.

So far, Jessa Duggar has not responded to her fans’ latest concerns about her son’s safety.
