Find out the Episode 12 results below in our Project Runway 2017 recap

Last week on Project Runway Season 16, the designers had to create looks inspired by “warrior women.” These were women that have battled breast cancer. The designers had two days for this challenge, yet Kenya was struggling to come up with a concept. She worked it out in the end, though, as she had one of the top looks for the week. The judges ended up eliminating Margarita, but Tim Gunn did not like that choice. He loved her dress, so he decided to use his save on her and no one was eliminated. The five designers compete again tonight to show their collections at New York Fashion Week.

The Challenge

This was the final challenge of the season. For this challenge, they had to create a high-fashion winter look that any fashionista would want to wear. Heidi Klum told them to use this challenge to show the judges why they deserve a spot in New York Fashion Week. They had two days for this challenge and a $400 budget, as Tim Gunn said he wanted them to be ambitious on this one.

Time To Freeze

Tim Gunn took the designers to the coldest place in New York City: the Minus 5 Ice Experience. The designers put on their fur coats and headed in to do some sketching. They were freezing, but they sketched and then headed to Mood to get their fabrics. Margarita purchased fur for her look, but Tim told her they are a fur-free show. This was after she tried to purchase it and shopping time was done, so he allowed her five more minutes to replace the fur.

Time To Get To Work

Kenya was not having an issue with her look this week, as she got to work right away. Everyone was working, but Margarita was struggling. She couldn’t get past that no-fur rule, but said she will make her way through it, as the first day came to an end on Project Runway 2017.

Tim’s Critiques

The next day came and Tim appeared for his critiques. For Kentaro, he thought his look was rich. He told Kenya that it is all in the details and the judges will wonder what her collection will be like. For Brandon, he said Brandon has exceeded his expectations and he is a fan. Tim said there is so much going on and Ayana will make a big mess if she starts painting. For Margarita, he wanted her to make a dress made of fur and told her he felt seduced.

Starting Over

Margarita had to start all over, so she basically wasted a full day on nothing. Ayana did paint, per Tim’s suggestion of doing it a certain way. The models came in for their fitting and Maragarita was a mess, as she had nothing done. The second day came to an end, as Margarita was pretty much convinced she was going to be eliminated.

Runway Day

The designers had two hours to get their models ready. Margarita completed the fur dress, but she has not seen it on her model, so she was nervous about that. When she came in, the model was not feeling the dress. There were plenty of issues, but the looks were done and everyone headed off to the runway.

Judges’ Critiques

After the runway show, it was time for the judges to give their critiques. Tonight’s judges were Heidi Klum, Zac Posen, Nina Garcia, and guest judge Katie Holmes.

  • Brandon – Zac said it was nice to see a winter version of what he does. Nina said she appreciated the layering and liked his use of the texture. Katie said it is a very modern take on something normal. Heidi said she loved it.
  • Margarita – Heidi said a fur dress can be tricky, but it worked on her. Katie said she loved the way it framed her face. Zac said the jacket was so classic. Nina said this coat looked perfect on her model.
  • Ayana – Nina liked that she played with color. Heidi said she would want to have that coat. Zac said it was over-styled, but it was new and fresh. Katie said it was very pleasing to the eye.
  • Kenya – Zac said her coat had some attitude, but she could have brought it more high-fashion. Heidi said they are all nice, but as a total look, she was not blown away. Nina said she was way too cool for the outfit underneath.
  • Kentaro – Nina said he did a wonderful job and loved the simplicity of the look. Heidi said it was heaven from head to toe. Zac said this was the chicest snow woman he had ever seen. Katie said he was telling a story and she liked that story.

Results

The judges discussed the looks from tonight and made their final decision. It looks like they loved everything from tonight, as all five of the designers moved forward to make collections for New York Fashion Week. No one was eliminated again this week.
