Arkansas Parents Allegedly Shook Baby To Death, Hid Maggot-Covered Corpse In Closet

An Arkansas couple allegedly shook an infant to death and then tried to hide his or her body in a closet for several weeks if not longer, KNWA (Rogers) is reporting.

Police say that Tyler Hobbs, 21, called to report that his 1-year-old child, who has not been identified as being a boy or a girl, had fallen down the stairs. Specifically, he said, he was under the influence of marijuana on October 15 when the incident happened. He claimed to have attempted CPR on the child, and that CPR failed and the child died. He said he then wrapped the child in blankets and placed him or her inside a container in a closet. He also claimed that he didn’t report the incident because he was afraid, but later he called to turn himself in.

When authorities arrived at the home, they noticed a foul smell permeating the apartment. On opening the closet, police found the body of the one-year-old infant in an “advanced state of decomposition” and covered in maggots.

Hobbs and his companion, Maria Giron-Molina, 21, both went to the police station, where Giron-Molina allegedly said that Hobbs had told her that baby fell and died at a park.

At the police station, Hobbs allegedly changed his story. He allegedly told police that on the night of the incident, the child was crying uncontrollably and Hobbs couldn’t get him or her to stop. He then admitted to covering the child’s mouth, then hitting and scratching him or her, then shaking the baby to death. He then allegedly passed out, woke up, attempted to perform CPR on the child, and when that didn’t work, he allegedly put him or her in the closet.

Hobbs was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. Giron-Molina was also arrested, and similarly faces a charge of abuse of a corpse.

This is not the first horrific case of a child’s abandoned corpse to make the news this week. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Cheyanne Harris and Zachary Koehn, of Iowa, are both in jail this week after the dead body of their baby was found in a swing, having allegedly been left there for days. The baby was covered with maggots, and authorities believe he had been there for at least a week.
