The sight of Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez together again is making some Jelena fans wonder if they’re experiencing flashbacks or time travel. But it’s real, as demonstrated by the photos of Bieber and Gomez doing everything from attending church together to breakfasting like two never-broken-up pals.

While fans are thrilled and celebrity couple observers are intrigued, Selena’s family reportedly is horrified and angry over her decision to reunite with Justin. Talking with TMZ about the reaction from the songstress’ family members when they learned that Gomez was communicating regularly again with Bieber, one insider revealed why they are so upset.

The family member explained that many of Selena’s relatives still remember how Justin treated her during the years in which they were together. Bieber’s alleged “extremely bad conduct” during their lengthy on-again, off-again romantic relationship reportedly was so hurtful to Gomez that her family will never accept Justin.

“Justin is a vile human and will never be accepted by us.”

In addition, the family member expressed concern about what it means for Selena’s mental health.

According to the family insider, Gomez’s relatives believe that as long as the songstress is communicating with Justin in any way at all, “it is not only disrespectful to everyone around her, it is disrespectful to her.” However, Selena doesn’t seem to be listening to what her family thinks of Bieber.

The Biebs and Gomez have been seen together on several occasions recently, despite her family’s concerns. Some family members reportedly even blame Gomez’s depression and stay in rehab at least partly on Justin.

This isn’t the first time that rumors have swirled about the hostility between Selena’s family and Bieber. As the Inquisitr reported, Gomez’s mother Mandy allegedly contacted Justin and told him to leave her daughter alone, telling Bieber not to phone or even email Gomez. Selena’s alleged “downward spiral” was also blamed on Justin.

Hollywood Life reported that Justin and Selena headed to her home to spend time with her friends on October 22. Bieber stayed at her house until after midnight, and Justin’s reported visit to Gomez’s home took place after the two were seen spending time together the prior week.

Bieber and Gomez were seen enjoying breakfast together at a cafe in Westlake and attending church as a couple. All these sightings have led to one big question: Where’s Selena’s boyfriend The Weekend?

If Bieber wanted to persuade Gomez to dump The Weekend and rekindle her romance with him, he certainly picked the perfect time. Selena and The Weekend took their romance public in January 2017. But he has been on tour.

Consequently, out of sight, out of mind seems to apply to Gomez’s relationship with The Weekend. Instead, it’s Justin who repeatedly has been seen with the songstress. Bieber’s dates with Selena have been more frequent despite his alleged bad conduct in the past.

For those trying to remember exactly what Justin did to cause her family to have such a harsh, unforgiving attitude toward Bieber, travel back in time to 2011, when they began their on-again, off-again romance. But it was the summer of 2016, when Bieber lashed out at fans for slamming his then-girlfriend Sofia Richie, that is most remembered.

Justin slammed his fans for their social media comments, and Selena got involved in his Instagram battle. The two battled on Instagram, and Bieber left the social media platform soon after. In the wake of that volatile drama, Gomez stopped touring and entered rehab for three months.

Selena issued a public statement about the reason for her decision to stay at a rehab facility. But although she pointed to her battle with lupus as the reason, that’s not what her family believes, according to Hollywood Life.

“Her family reportedly believes she was actually in a period of depression, brought on by Justin.”

While Gomez’s family is reportedly upset and furious about her renewed romance with Bieber, Elle reported that The Weeknd reportedly is all right with the knowledge that Selena and Justin are spending time together.

Well, maybe. Although Selena and her boyfriend still follow each other despite her rekindled relationship with Bieber, The Weeknd unfollowed Gomez’s mother, her assistant Theresa Mingus, her best friend/kidney transplant donor Francia Raisa, and the parents of Selena’s godson.
