‘General Hospital’ Stars Steve Burton, Maurice Benard, And Laura Wright Gush Over Juicy Port Charles Reunion

Steve Burton is back on General Hospital after a five-year absence, and viewers are excited to see his on-screen reunions with some core Port Charles characters. At this point, Burton is playing “Patient 6,” and he had his first face-to-face encounter with Maurice Benard’s Sonny Corinthos during Wednesday’s show. There are plenty of twists and turns set to play out on-screen over the coming months, but GH fans are getting a kick out of how this is all playing out off-screen.

While things are tense among all of the pertinent players on-screen at the moment, it looks like many in the cast are having a blast with this reunion in real life. After the big scenes between Burton and Benard aired on Wednesday, Steve tweeted a picture of the two together. He thanked everybody for their kind words about their scenes and noted that he loves being back with Maurice. The General Hospital actor added a hashtag noting that the two men are brothers for life.

Burton isn’t the only cast member thrilled with this casting development. Benard tweeted that working on Wednesday’s General Hospital show with Steve felt right in every way, and he’s thrilled that the viewers enjoyed it. Fans have been somewhat skeptical about some components of this storyline, but most have been blown away by the last couple of episodes and the intense, emotional scenes involving Patient 6 and Sonny.

The returning General Hospital star has done some media interviews to help promote this big storyline, and fans cannot help but notice that Burton is in great spirits. ABC executive Nathan Varni shared a video clip from Extra with Steve and actress Laura Wright, who plays Carly Corinthos, and the two were virtually giddy as they interacted with one another. Burton noted that it had been really tough to leave five years ago, and he joked that he practically needed therapy to get through his withdrawals from everybody.

Wright mentioned that Burton will be commuting from Nashville, Tennessee, where his family lives, to Los Angeles, where General Hospital films. This was said to be a challenge for him while he was playing Dylan on Young and Restless, but Steve says that he’s happy to be “home” and very glad to be back. During a chat with the crew of ABC7, he reiterated that he missed GH a lot, having initially been there for 20 years. Burton says that it was tough to be away and that he jumped at the chance to return as soon as the opportunity became available.

Unfortunately, Burton didn’t reveal any juicy General Hospital spoilers about where things are headed next. Steve simply said that he can confirm that he’s having a great time, and he feels that the producers and writers are doing a great job telling the story, even if it’s moving too slowly for some viewers.

What about how Kelly Monaco, who plays Sam, and Billy Miller, who plays the current Jason Morgan? Miller keeps his distance from social media, but Monaco has made it clear that she and Billy have become quite tight. Both will obviously follow the path the writers lay out for them with this storyline, and General Hospital spoilers tease that things may not end up being quite as obvious or simple as some are guessing.

The decision to bring Burton back has been quite controversial among fans. While viewers are happy to see Steve Burton, Maurice Benard, Laura Wright, and other GH stars so excited about this, many hope that there is still room for Billy Miller in the mix of things too. Do you think you have this General Hospital story figured out, or are you hoping there are more shockers ahead?
