WWE Rumors: Can Braun Strowman Really Cut It As A WWE ‘Babyface’?

In WWE wrestling anything can happen, but wrestling fans must be wondering if they are imagining things when it comes to Braun Strowman. At last weekend’s TLC PPV Strowman joined The Miz, Cesaro, Sheamus, and Kane for a five-on-three tag match against The Shield. At least it should have been against The Shield, but Roman Reigns missed the event. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, Reigns was unable to compete because of illness. Reports suggested that Reigns had contracted viral meningitis. Reigns was replaced by Kurt Angle, who made his first WWE ring appearance for 11 years.

Perhaps predictably, The Shield won the match, but a confrontation between Kane and Braun Strowman has become a really interesting sideshow. As reported by The Sportster, there was locker room tension between Strowman and Kane before the match, and that tension spilled over into the ring.

Things really kicked off when Kane “accidentally” hit Strowman with a steel chair and the teammates turned on each other. As the match progressed each of Team Miz turned on Strowman, who ended the evening in the back of a garbage truck where he was deposited by his own team.

According to Give Me Sport, the clash between Strowman and the rest of his team is all part of a WWE plan to turn Strowman into one of Monday Night Raw’s top babyfaces. It is an interesting if somewhat bizarre idea. Strowman has been Monday Night Raw’s top attraction throughout 2017. His feuds with the hapless Sami Zayn and then Roman Reigns have been real highlights, and WWE fans have come to love the Monster Among Men.

Strowman even managed to land himself a championship match against Brock Lesnar. Throughout the promos for that match, Paul Heyman built Strowman up as the biggest threat to Lesnar’s superiority.

As reported by Forbes earlier this year, the Monday Night Raw roster already has an imbalance of Faces vs. Heels. There are 21 faces and only 14 heels, so a face turn by Strowman would throw the Raw roster into an even greater state of imbalance. Of course, that may mean that the WWE network has plans for a number of current faces to take heel turns.

Strowman is arguably in an odd position, his heel status means that the WWE universe should be booing him, but Strowman is wildly popular. Perhaps WWE is keen to cash in on Strowman’s popularity by turning him into a babyface. It would certainly be an interesting face turn and would open up the possibility of Strowman feuding with the like of Samoa Joe, The Miz, and Bray Wyatt.
