Kellogg’s Replacing Corn Pops Box Due To ‘Racist’ Brown Janitor Corn Pop — Twitter Goes Nuts
There are many things in the world that offend people and some may agree while others may not, but this latest one is causing a bit of an uproar. Kellogg’s is redesigning the art on a batch of Corn Pops cereal boxes due to someone complaining that the design on the packaging was racist. All of this stems from art showing a world where Corn Pops live and have fun, but one of the characters is a janitor and he’s a single brown corn pop.
Yes, the fact that this single corn pop is brown and portraying the job as a janitor has brought about enough of an issue for Kellogg’s to have to change it.
As reported by the NY Daily News, a science fiction and fantasy writer by the name of Saladin Ahmed was eating breakfast with his son when he noticed the art on the Corn Pops box. The artwork shows a bunch of cartoon Corn Pops enjoying time at the mall while they play in the arcade, shop, and even skateboard.
Ahmed realized that there is just one brown corn pop in the entire mall and he doesn’t appear to be having a good time. No, that brown corn pop is the janitor who works in the mall and Ahmed believes Kellogg’s is sending a racist message with it.
hey @KelloggsUS why is literally the only brown corn pop on the whole cereal box the janitor? this is teaching kids racism. pic.twitter.com/Nh7M7IFawW

As people began responding to Ahmed’s complaint, he did later say that he realized it was a “tiny thing,” but he knew his child had a problem with it and believed “millions of other kids” did as well. It didn’t take long before Kellogg’s responded to Ahmed’s complaint and even rectified the situation.
Kellogg is committed to diversity & inclusion. We did not intend to offend – we apologize. The artwork is updated & will be in stores soon.

From there, Ahmed said he “genuinely appreciated” the quick response of Kellogg’s and the actions they’re taking with the boxes of Corn Pops. Kellogg’s said that they take all feedback “very seriously,” and that they never intended to offend anyone.
After the apology was issued by Kellogg’s, the internet lost its collective mind.

Kellogg’s is one of those companies that do not want to offend anyone who may be a potential customer, and that is why they decided to address Saladin Ahmed’s complaint. Due to him thinking that the brown janitor on the box of Corn Pops was racially insensitive, they have decided to change the artwork on future shipments. Their decision to cave so quickly to the complaint didn’t sit well with everyone, though, and the backlash is real.
