‘Counting On’ Finale: Did Jim Bob And Michelle Try To Stop Joseph Duggar And Kendra Caldwell’s Wedding

Weddings are a common occurrence in the Duggar family, and in the season finale of Counting On, it was Joy-Anna’s turn to walk down the aisle. After she said “I do” to Austin Forsyth, her brother Joseph got down on one knee at the reception to propose to Kendra Caldwell. Is it possible the Duggar parents tried to stop their wedding?

It has been nearly nine years since Josh Duggar married his wife Anna, and since then, Jim Bob and Michelle have seen four daughters (Jill, Jessa, Jinger, and Joy-Anna) tie the knot. So, things were a bit different when they talked to Joseph about married life. However, just because their advice for their son was not the same, it didn’t mean that the Duggar parents were any less excited about seeing their son make such a big commitment.

Jim Bob and Michelle didn’t try to stop anything. Instead, they talked with Joseph about what it takes to have a long, happy marriage.

OK! Magazine reports that Michelle started the important conversation by explaining how she and her husband have had a successful relationship for more than thirty years, as documented on 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On. She told her son not to ever go to sleep at night if things aren’t right between him and his wife. The mom of 19 then said that her son’s words and actions were important.

“Speak kind words to one another. Always cherish her. Treat her with the utmost respect. And speak words of affirmation to encourage her,” advised Michelle.

Jim Bob added that, even though Joseph is a “man of few words,” he needs to constantly communicate with his wife and let her know that he loves her.

Before Joseph Duggar asked Caldwell to marry him, he first went to her father to ask for his permission. Caldwell’s dad gave Joseph his blessing, but reminded him that marriage is a big step and he was taking one of his “most precious gifts.”

According to In Touch, the 22-year-old Duggar met his 20-year-old bride at church and the two instantly hit it off because they shared similar views on faith and religion.

They talked with each other for six months before announcing their courtship, which in Duggar world means dating with the intention of marriage. After a three-month engagement, Duggar and Caldwell married in September. And, if they are anything like the majority of Duggar kids that came before them, we should be hearing baby news any day now.
