Real Reason Why Rey Mysterio Hasn’t Made WWE Return Revealed

Recently, it was rumored that Rey Mysterio had been negotiating with some bigger promotions, including WWE. Over the past few years, he’s found success with AAA, Lucha Underground, and other promotions in the industry. Many people were hopeful that Rey Mysterio would make his return to WWE, especially with the way the company allows wrestlers to perform on a part-time basis like Brock Lesnar or even Goldberg.

Unfortunately, it seemed like his WWE return was doubtful because GFW made a much bigger money offer to him. However, Mysterio never signed with GFW or another major promotion. Any rumors about making another run with WWE are also old news. Instead, Rey Mysterio has remained a free agent on the market, but it’s come to light that he’s been asking for too much money, which is why he has not signed a contract.

Apparently, Mysterio has been asking for at least $10,000 per match during his independent bookings. That number may have thrown off some huge promotions like New Japan or Ring of Honor, but it’s clear that an exclusive deal with GFW would be too expensive. It’s likely that WWE could afford a huge contract with Mysterio, but it’s a matter of the deal being best for business for Mysterio and WWE officials.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, WWE honored Rey Mysterio and that got some fans discussing another run for him. WWE officials may have been testing the waters to bring the former WWE Champion back to the company, but it was likely just an honorable mention. Mysterio’s activity on social media caught a lot of attention after Kalisto won the Cruiserweight Title a few weeks ago. That was likely just a mention as well.

There is no question that Rey Mysterio could bring a great deal of attention to the Cruiserweight division. A future WWE Hall of Famer will always be of use to the product, but it seems a bigger return for Mysterio is unlikely right now. The WWE Royal Rumble and WrestleMania season are coming up. The opportunity for Mysterio to make his return to WWE will always be there. The question is just when the right time will be.
