WWE News: Roman Reigns Talks About Possibly Fighting The Rock At ‘WrestleMania’ PPV

In a recent interview, WWE superstar Roman Reigns said he won’t back away from a fight in the ring, even if it involves his pal The Rock. The Brahma Bull has been embroiled in the superstardom of Hollywood and other ventures, but he occasionally makes his way back to show love to the WWE. He and Reigns have been involved in several spots or segments within WWE, but never an actual one-on-one-match. However, Reigns would seemingly be up for the fight, and there’s only one place he can see that match taking place.

While speaking with the Mirror’s Neil Docking, Reigns was asked about a dream match, and the name that was brought to his attention was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. When Reigns was originally part of The Shield, he and his stablemates attacked Rock in one segment. Later on, Reigns was supposed to go over with the fans with a big Royal Rumble victory. The Rock was there to support the Samoan superstar, but he was shocked by the response. With that said, Reigns believes a chance to go one-on-one with “The Great One” would certainly be a dream match he wouldn’t turn down.

Reigns mentioned the match should only take place at WrestleMania, and it would need some careful discussion ahead of time.

“But when the time is right, the time is right. But in the same light, I can only see me and Rock going at WrestleMania. Not only because of his schedule, but just the level of that match and the level of superstar that he is and you know, where I’m trying to get. But we also have a deep family tie. We represent the same family tree and having the opportunity to represent our culture, there would obviously have to be a sit down and we would have to express how we feel and the light we want to do this in… because there’s a lot of people we represent watching. The last thing I want to do is make it confusing or anything like that.”

As mentioned, Rock has been off in Hollywood making box-office blockbusters (and flops), but he sometimes comes back to his old stomping grounds. He’s been prominent at a slew of WrestleMania pay-per-views over the past decade. Not all of his appearances have been full matches, as he’s also done a segment to help Ronda Rousey get into the ring and toss The Authority around.

His last “match,” so to speak, came against former Wyatt Family member Erick Rowan, but it was only a six-second bout. He fought John Cena at back-to-back WrestleMania PPV’s with a 1-1 record in those two matches. The key issue with Rock making a return to WWE for any sort of meaningful match right now seems to be injury concerns as they relate to making movies. When it comes down to it, it seems the money from making movies and having future opportunities in action movies far outweighs taking on Roman Reigns in the ring.

There’s also the fact that Roman Reigns seems booked, at least for the next WrestleMania pay-per-view. For months, the rumors have suggested Reigns is going to take on “The Beast” Brock Lesnar. However, WWE may not shy away from the possibility of bringing The Rock in once again to even tease the notion of a match in the future. The WWE recently simulated the match on WWE 2K17 as a way to sell copies of the game, and probably tease the dream match a bit.

So the possibility is still there. Reigns has conquered just about every major star in his path, with The Undertaker and John Cena the latest superstars he’s overcome. One has to wonder if adding The Rock to his list of wins would do much to help him gain the respect and fan support Vince McMahon so desperately wants him to have.
