Alyssa Milano Condemns Harvey Weinstein, Expresses ‘Love’ To Georgina Chapman, Her ‘Project Runway’ Co-Star

Who’s The Boss actress Alyssa Milano has issued a statement on her website, Patriot Not Partisan, publicly condemning disgraced Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, for sexually harassing scores of women, including her formed Charmed co-star, Rose McGowan. Yet, Milano remained quite sensitive to Weinstein’s estranged wife, Georgina Chapman, her Project Runway All Stars co-star. What did Alyssa have to say?

On Monday, Alyssa supported Rose McGowan on social media, posting a photo of the two of them on her Instagram page, yet she did not write a public statement about Harvey Weinstein.

Rose McGowan has been very vocal on social media since a recent New York Times piece was published regarding Miramax producer Harvey Weinstein’s sexual harassment of many actresses, including McGowan. The paper reported that the Charmed actress was paid $100,000 out of court, for an incident that occurred in 1997.

Later, that same day, the usually outspoken Milano finally did speak up about Harvey Weinstein. Her 542-word statement, posted on her website, Patriot Not Partisan, Alyssa began at the beginning with “I’ve been asked a number of times to comment on the Harvey Weinstein scandal.”

The Mistresses actress wanted to make it clear that up till then, she was not speaking about Harvey Weinstein and sexual harassment in the workplace because of her “love” for her Project Runway All Stars co-host Georgina Chapman, the estranged wife of Weinstein. Calling Chapman “one of the most special humans I have ever met,” Milano explains how complicated this Harvey Weinstein situation has been for her.

“Even with these strong feelings – not just about Weinstein but about workplace sexism in general – this statement is complicated for me for personal reasons. Harvey has a wife, who I have had the privilege of working with for the last 5 years on Project Runway All Stars. Georgina Chapman is my friend. She is one of the most special humans I have ever met. Harvey and Georgina also have two very young children who my children have known their entire lives. It is because of my love for Georgina, India and Dashiell that I haven’t publicly commented on this until now. Please don’t confuse my silence for anything other than respect for a dear friend and her beautiful children.”

Alyssa, who is the host and a judge on Project Runway All Stars, along with designers Isaac Mizrahi and Georgina Chapman. They have all worked together for five seasons on the show, Georgina and Alyssa’s children have been grown up together.

Georgina has a daughter, India Pearl, 7, and a son, Dashiell Max Robert, 4. Alyssa’s two children with husband David Bugliari are Milo Thomas, 6, and Elizabella Dylan, 3. are very close in age.

This situation hits home to Alyssa, especially that until he was kicked off of his board, Weinstein was also the executive producer of the Project Runway franchise. But, most of all, he was the husband of a very dear person in Alyssa’s life, and this has been a very delicate situation in Hollywood.

In the body of the statement, Alyssa includes the startling statistic that 1 in 3 women are victims of sexual harassment. She points out that Harvey Weinstein is one of many men who sexually harass women in the workplace.

“Men like Harvey Weinstein are around every corner. Men who undermine women and their strength, ability and intelligence exist everywhere. Statistics say that 1 in 3 women are sexually harassed in the workplace.”

Milano wanted to make it clear to anyone giving her shade, that she does “fight for women’s rights,” and she does not condone sexual harassment, even if she is not vocal about a particular case, such as Harvey Weinstein. She believes this issue has to change for everyone. Women cannot continue to be harassed in this way.
