‘Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 3rei!’ Movie Sequel Anime Confirmed: ‘Fate/Kaleid’ Season 5 Continues Manga?
A Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya anime sequel has just been confirmed to be in the works. Likely to be called Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 3rei Herz! (or 4ier!) based on the naming convention of the first several seasons, the new anime project will be Fate/Kaleid Season 5 in the series. The story will be a sequel to the 2017 anime movie Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya: Sekka no Chikai (or Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya: Oath In The Snow).
The announcement of the fifth season came from the official Twitter page for Prisma Illya. Voice actress Mai Kadowaki, who plays the titular character Illyasviel von Einzbern in the anime TV show, also confirmed the announcement with a brief message to her fans.
“In addition, a surprise from [Shirou Emiya voice actor Noriaki] Sugiyama is the big secret announcement about the production decision for a sequel,” she tweeted out on October 7, 2017. “Hooray!! We were watching a movie. Thank you very much!”
The exact title of the new Fate/Kaleid anime project has yet to be announced. The first season was simply named Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya, while subsequent seasons appended the title with wordplay based on German numbers and words. 2wei! and 2wei Herz! (the German word for heart) covered the events of the manga series with the same name. The fourth season, 3rei!, was based on the third manga series and announced the Fate/Kaleid movie with an end card.
Based on the naming convention, it is possible the fifth season could be called Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 4ier! since the German word for four is “vier.” However, the Oath in the Snow movie was based on events from the relatively lengthy 3rei! manga series, which is up to Volume 9 as of this article’s publishing. Since the plot of the movie was a flashback, it pulled from Chapters 31 to 43 of the 3rei! manga. The entire third manga series has yet to be adapted, so the fifth season of the anime adaptation is most likely going to be called Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 3rei Herz! or something similar.
The exact release date of Fate/Kaleid Season 5 was not announced. Considering that many anime series will premiere within a year of the first announcement, it is reasonable to speculate that the new anime based on Fate/Kaleid Liner Prisma Illya 3rei will premiere in 2018. Stay tuned!
