The Avengers Go Prehistoric in Marvel Legacy #1


Marvel Entertainment is continuing to tease its long-awaited Marvel Legacy #1 with the release of images for their Avengers 1,000,000 B.C.

The publisher has revealed the cast for its prehistoric take on the superhero team according to ScreenRant. The lineup will feature Odin (Thor’s father), Starbrand, Phoenix, Agamotto, and the original Iron Fist, Black Panther, and Ghost Rider. The purpose for the prehistoric dive into Marvel’s mythology is to answer several questions proposed by several characters of the universe.

According to Comicbook.com, the questions are:

  1. Who sent the call from Planet Hulk?
  2. What is hunting for the Infinity Stones?
  3. Where in the world is Captain America?
  4. When will Thor fight the War of Realms?
  5. Why does Jean Grey journey to Canada?
  6. How has the body of Iron Man disappeared?

These questions provide a narrative to what the 50 page behemoth Marvel Legacy #1 will contend with while building a richer world for the future of Marvel titles. It will also address and mine its own history to unravel the tangle of plot affecting the modern world of Marvel.

“Marvel Legacy #1 isn’t simply a history lesson. Rather, it’s the starting gun to a bevy of mysteries, secrets, and revelations that will reverberate across the Marvel Universe in the weeks and months to come!” said Executive Editor Tom Breevort.

The aim of the issue is create a fresh story while using the tools they have at their disposal. The mysteries are great and stretch across the line, but will this be sure to revitalize the publisher’s mythology. Also, Marvel’s decision to do a prehistoric take on their popular franchise the Avengers could prove to explore a different take on the definition of past, present, and future superheroes.

Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso believes it will have a massive impact not only on the Marvel Universe, but its effects will reverberate across the comic book industry itself according to ScreenRant. He also stated that the issue will serve as a great starting place for new readers who want to invest in the Marvel comic book universe.

The recent image released by Marvel has Odin as a younger god, a female Iron Fist, and the most striking is Ghost Rider on a mammoth shrouded in flames. The photo featuring the Avengers of the prehistoric age can be viewed below. The art for the image released was done by Mike Deodato Jr.

Marvel Legacy #1 is written by Jason Aaron (The Might Thor, Scalped) and drawn by Esad Ribic (Secret Wars, Uncanny X-Force) and will be released on September 27, 2017.
