SyFy Pulls Violent ‘Haven’ Episode In Wake Of Connecticut School Shooting
SyFy has pulled an episode of its series Haven in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The episode in question reportedly depicted scenes of violence which took place inside a high school. In order to prevent the material from offending any of its viewers, the cable network has opted to yank the episode from its schedule.
“Tonight’s scheduled 10PM episode of Haven contained scenes of fictitious violence in a high school. In light of today’s tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, we have decided not to air it. At this time, no decision has been made as to when the episode will air.”
Instead of Haven, the network will air the animated holiday episode of its hit series Eureka.
The Washington Post reports that SyFy isn’t the only network currently making adjustments in the wake of the Connecticut shooting. Late night talk show host Craig Ferguson has apologized to his fans for the “clunky” editing in tonight’s episode. The cuts were reportedly made to remove the host’s trademark phrase “It’s a great day in America!” from the broadcast.
“Terrible news story today. Please forgive edit in tonight’s pretaped show because it’s not such a great day for America,” Ferguson tweeted to his followers.
A couple of network shows reportedly made some adjustments to this evening’s lineup in order to provide coverage of the massacre. Diane Sawyer and Chris Cuomo fronted an anchored edition of the news magazine 20/20 for ABC, while Brian Williams and Lester Holt hosted Dateline over at NBC.
As The Inquisitr previously reported, a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut has claimed the lives of 27 people. Although the news first broke on Twitter earlier this morning, details about the shooting didn’t begin to emerge until the afternoon.
