‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Michael Sutton Reprises Role As Stone Cates—Fans Have Mixed Reactions

General Hospital fans are in for some exciting things this summer, with one of the iconic characters set to return. Michael Sutton is reprising his role as Stone Cates, which got mixed reactions from long-time viewers of the daytime soap.

TVLine has revealed that Sutton will be back to General Hospital this August to play Cates, a character who died in 1995. While some are pleased to hear the news, others are not happy with the prospect of destroying his beautiful love story with Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) and his storyline of dying of AIDS. One of the comments on the soap’s official Facebook page read:

“Than what’s the point of a sad good bye if they’re going to come back years after???????? I liked stone and he played his part very well with Robin and the storyline of him having and died of aids. But the character passed away and leave it at that!!!!!!”

However, General Hospital fans should not fret. Stone will not be back from the dead. Spoilers reveal that his return will have something to do with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). Sonny took Cates and treated him as a younger brother. Now, Sonny is set to experience a major crisis as he is planning to leave the mob life behind.

“Calm down… He will either come as a spirit to comfort Sonny or Sonny will have a dream about what life would have been like for people if he was never around..if he never joined the mob… I doubt the writers would flat out destroy such a beautifully written, beautifully acted, poignant moment. I was only 12 and I remember it vividly…’Robin! I see you.'”

General Hospital spoilers via Celeb Dirty Laundry tease that Stone will appear in Sonny’s imagination as he drifts between life and death. Toward the end of this month, Sam and Sonny will have a tense confrontation, and Sam will end up shooting Sonny. Sam is not in her right senses when the violence occurs and she would be horrified to learn what she did after her hallucinations subsided.

Michael Sutton previously reprised his role as Stone Cates in 2010 when Robin was trapped in a well. He appeared as a figment of Robin’s imagination when she was delusional. Michael is expected to be around for a storyline next month.
