Amar’e Stoudemire, Alexis Welch Tie The Knot In Secret Ceremony [Report]

Congratulations are apparently in order for NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire and his fiancee’ Alexis Welch.

According to a report by The New York Daily News, the longtime couple got married Wednesday in a super-secret ceremony on the rooftop of Amare’s apartment in the city’s Greenwich Village neighborhood.

Sources say the couple was inspired by the special 12/12/12 date, and wed in front of their three children — Amar’e Jr., Ar’e and Assata — and a few other family members.

“They decided to do this because of the date, and they wanted to do something spiritual and private for themselves,” an insider told the NY Daily. “Less than seven other people were there, no Knicks teammates. It was just about them.”

After swapping vows Wednesday, Alexis and Amar’e immediately hopped on the web to share their good news with the world.

The glowing bride updated her Instagram user name to AlexisAStoudemire and the Knicks forward sent out a tweet his fans which said:

“12.12.12 now has a special & spiritual meaning to us …”

Stoudemire attached a picture of his and his beautiful bride’s rings to the Twitter post.

Later Wednesday evening, the newlyweds made their first public appearance as Mr. and Mrs. Stoudemire at NYC’s 12-12-12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert at Madison Square Garden.

Amar’e and Alexis Stoudemire started dating in 2002 and got engaged in June outside the Le Meurice Hotel Belle Etoile in Paris, overlooking the Eiffel Tower.

During his proposal, Amar’e presented Alexis with an 8½-carat Afashar diamond that reportedly cost more than $1 million.
