On Sunday, Alexa Bliss will defend the Raw Women’s Title against Sasha Banks at the WWE Great Balls of Fire PPV. Bliss moved to Raw during the “Superstar Shakeup” following WrestleMania 33 and became the Raw Women’s Champion rather quickly. Meanwhile, The Boss has been floating around the mid-card for the past several months. WWE officials felt it was time for The Boss to face The Goddess at Great Balls of Fire.
Their rivalry has only lasted a few weeks on Raw, but there is a lot of history between Banks and Bliss from their time together in NXT. Apparently, there is some real-life heat between the two women because of some personal issues behind the scenes. It’s being said that the two genuinely don’t like each other, which may be a good thing for their rivalry. Regardless of their feelings, the two will have to be professional on Sunday.
It’s being speculated that their backstage heat comes from Banks accidentally breaking Alexa’s nose during a match and some comments that The Boss made about Bliss on social media. On paper, that tension could be utilized to make their rivalry stronger, but the rumors are claiming that WWE officials have other plans for them heading into WWE SummerSlam. It seems their match on Sunday will be a one-and-done situation.
It’s been reported that WWE officials are planning for Alexa Bliss to defend the Raw Women’s Title against Nia Jax at WWE SummerSlam this year. There is a rumor going around that WWE officials are planning to turn Jax babyface over the coming weeks, which could culminate in her first Women’s Championship at the biggest show of the summer. That would put to rest the rumors about Nia being held back by her booking.
Meanwhile, Sasha Banks is rumored to finally turn heel and rekindle her historic rivalry with Bayley on the main roster. Banks turning heel and Jax turning babyface will bring balance to the women’s roster on Raw, but it will also allow WWE officials to bring The Boss vs. The Huggable One to WWE SummerSlam. A lot of people have been waiting for the powers that be to pull the trigger on their rivalry since WrestleMania.
Based on what WWE officials have planned for WWE SummerSlam, Banks vs. Bliss at WWE Great Balls of Fire is a means to an end. Hopefully, their match can launch both women into good positions as their plans for the next PPV come to fruition over the next few weeks. WWE officials have huge plans for the Women’s Division on Raw over the rest of the summer. It seems Banks vs. Bliss will be the perfect launching pad.
