Song Joong Ki reportedly proposed to Song Hye Kyo in Japan last winter. And it was during the proposal that the Song-Song couple apparently promised to live together forever.
Earlier this week, the Descendants of the Sun co-stars shocked their fans by announcing that they were getting married on October 31 this year. Korea Boo is now reporting that Song Joong Ki had popped the big question when Song Hye Kyo was in Japan for work.
The report quoted a witness called Yuri as saying that last winter, the 31-year-old actor visited the place where Song Hye Kyo was working.
“Truthfully, a friend told me that [Song Joong Ki, Song Hye Kyo] and staff members came to where she was working last winter.”
Song Joong Ki reportedly organized a romantic event, and during the event, he asked Song Hye Kyo to marry him. The 35-year-old actress was so touched by Song Joong Ki’s romantic proposal that she started to cry. Yuri, however, is not sure whether the actor also put a ring on Song Hye Kyo’s finger during the event.
“I’m not sure if he gave her the ring that day.”
Earlier, Korea Boo reported, citing a Dispatch article, that Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo officially became a couple during their Tokyo date in January 2017. Song Joong Ki had reportedly confessed his feelings to the actress on that day.
Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki’s romance began on the set of Descendants of the Sun. Soompi quoted a close acquaintance of the two actors as saying that the two started having feelings for each other before the hit drama aired in February 2016. Unlike a majority of the Korean dramas, Descendants of the Sun was a pre-produced drama, and its shooting took place in Greece and South Korea in the second half of 2015.
Once the drama ended, rumors started to swirl that Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki were dating in real life. The two, however, never confirmed the rumors and kept quiet about their relationship status. The acquaintance said that the two actors never tried to hide their relationship from the people close to them, adding that the couple, however, refused to confirm or deny the rumors when someone else asked them about it.
“Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo didn’t really try to hide their relationship from the people around them. They first told people they trusted, and if someone else asked about it, they neither affirmed nor denied.”
On July 4, Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki finally broke their silence. Their management agencies released a statement that not only confirmed the rumors but also announced their wedding date.
The wedding news triggered another set of rumors. Korean netizens began speculating that Song Hye Kyo might be pregnant with Song Joong Ki’s child. Song Hye Kyo’s agency was quick to deny pregnancy rumors, saying that it was “completely groundless.”
After their wedding, Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo will be moving to a new home in the upscale neighborhood of Itaewon, Seoul, according to reports.
