Monday’s Season 3 premiere of Counting On saw Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell get engaged during the wedding reception of Joy Duggar and Austin Forsyth’s wedding, the Daily Mail reports. The Duggar family has expressed their excitement at the notion of welcoming Kendra into their family. And why not? After all, Joy collaborated with his 22-year-old brother in staging the proposal in her own wedding.
How Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell got engaged
During the traditional tossing of the bouquet two hours into the wedding reception, Joy instead walked towards Kendra Caldwell and hand-delivered the flowers to her. As planned, Joseph emerged out of nowhere, went down on one knee in front of Kendra, and then asked her to marry him. Ms. Caldwell, caught unaware by the ruse her boyfriend pulled on her, accepted the proposal.
“Will you marry me?” Joseph asked.
“Yes! Joe! I would love to marry you,” Kendra exclaimed.
Duggar then put a ring on it.
Unlike most proposals, Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell’s engagement wasn’t set off by a kiss. As reported by the Daily Mail, Austin Forsyth reminded his new brother-in-law that he isn’t allowed to kiss his new fiancée on account of the courtship rules established by the Duggar family.
“No kissing. Keep it clean,” Joseph agreed.
While the proposal went according to plan, a brief encounter between Kendra and Joseph almost spoiled everything.
“He had the ring in his pocket so when I went to go help myself and grab mints out of his pocket, he grabbed at his pocket and I pulled my hand away. But then I quickly forgot about it,” the 18-year-old Kendra said.

How Joseph Duggar met Kendra Caldwell
Joseph and Kendra met and became friends through their church and their families have become close friends ever since. Being a devout Christian himself, Joseph courted Kendra in a manner that follows every rule in the Duggar’s dating rule book, which means that they aren’t allowed to kiss before marriage and hold hands before getting engaged. According to the Duggar parents, such rules will keep their children from the temptation of engaging in premarital sex.
Joseph gave Kendra a promise ring to express his commitment towards her for the entire courtship on March 7, as reported by AOL.
Now that Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell are engaged, the couple has reportedly held hands while enjoying a ride at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri.
According to People, the pair hasn’t settled on a wedding date yet, but are looking forward to getting married in the fall.
“We are not 100 percent sure as far as the exact date of the wedding, but we like fall at some point,” Joseph said.

“There were lots of things I was definitely taking tips on at Joy-Anna’s wedding that I thought we might do,” Kendra added.
